Enzymes and substances to adjust the pH value and viscosity are also added to many saliva substitutes. To prevent caries in dentate patients, pH-neutral saliva substitutes that contain fluoride and are supersaturated with calcium and phosphate should be recommended wherever possible. Butter and wetting the mucous membranes with edible oils are also helpful. Despite all these substances, no substitute preparation has yet been found that can replace human saliva.                                                         <h2>Whitish or brownish discolouration, structural anomaly up to tooth malformationSo-called</h2><p>chalk teeth are the result of impaired enamel formation during tooth development. Both milk teeth and permanent teeth can be affected, in some children and adolescents even both dentitions. </p><p>One particular form of this irreversible enamel formation disorder is so-called molar incisor hypomineralisation, or MIH for short, which affects the first molars (molars) and the central front teeth. The upper jaw is statistically more frequently affected than the lower jaw. The changes are usually recognised when the teeth erupt, usually from the age of 6 in the case of permanent teeth. </p><p>There are different degrees of severity. 90% of all MIH cases show whitish-creamy to yellowish-brownish, opaque discolouration, but with a largely intact structure and unchanged tooth shape. More severe forms are characterised by structural defects (mostly pores) and even slight changes in the shape of the tooth. In rare, very severe cases, there are yellowish-brownish, very pronounced morphological changes in shape and structural collapses. </p>

<p>After successful initial periodontal treatment (see tip 8), the gums tighten and, in the best-case scenario, the gum pockets disappear and often reduce in size. However, bony regeneration usually does not occur. The <b>basic tendency to periodontitis</b> is also the same after treatment as before (see tip 3). In this respect, periodontitis is basically "incurable". The inflammation-free state and the associated standstill for further bone resorption only remains stable for a certain period of time, which varies from person to person. This must be determined individually in order to repeat the periodontitis therapy (as so-called <b>supportive periodontal therapy, UPT</b>) in a modified or analogue form at intervals as required.</p>

    Our tooth colour is genetically determined and is primarily determined by the dentin inside the tooth. Light reflection effects on the tooth surface and the individual light transparency of the whitish enamel allow the yellowish dentin to show through more or less, depending on the thickness of the enamel. The enamel is thinner at the neck of the tooth and therefore the teeth appear more yellow there. With advancing age, the thickness of the enamel layer

<p>
    During bleaching, the enamel prisms are roughened and the tooth surface becomes porous. Less light reaches the inside of the tooth

    The actual body of the tooth (the dentin) is permeated with many small fluid-filled canals right up to the "nerve" inside the tooth. The overlying enamel is thin or patchy, especially at the neck of the tooth. </p>

    Bleeding gums and receding gums are common symptoms of periodontitis, which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. </p>
