Bad breath is often caused by an imbalance in the '
'oral flora, where odor-producing bacteria predominate. '
'This can be caused by food residue, plaque or inflamed '
'gums. ApaCare OraLactin toothpaste and '
'mouthwash with probiotic effects help to restore '
'the balance of the oral flora. They promote healthy '
'bacteria and inhibit odor-producing germs, effectively '
'combating the causes of bad breath.
\n'
'
Recommendation \n'
'
Use ApaCare OraLactin toothpaste daily and '
'supplement your care with ApaCare OraLactin '
'mouthwash to sustainably reduce bad breath and '
'promote healthy oral flora.

Dry mouth can significantly reduce the quality of '
'life and increase the risk of many oral '
'diseases The stimulated saliva flow rate, e.g. '
'when chewing chewing gum, is approx. 1 ml of saliva per '
'minute. Less than 0.3 ml of stimulated saliva flow '
'(hyposalivation) per minute is referred to as dry mouth '
'(xerostomia). People affected by this often suffer '
'greatly. The tongue sticks to the palate, speaking is '
'difficult, swallowing can become a pain, there is '
'unpleasant bad breath as well as burning mouth and '
'tongue. The spread of bacterial infections in the mouth '
'is favoured and the risk of oral fungal infections '
'increases. The lack of cleaning and remineralisation of '
'the teeth leads to the rapid progression of tooth decay '
'and inflammation of the gums, periodontium and oral '
'mucosa. The sense of taste is also very limited, even '
'to the point of discomfort such as the salty perception '
'of sweet food (dysgeusia).

What else can be done \n'
'
After a detailed medical history (questioning the '
'patient about their state of health, medication, '
'general illnesses, course of symptoms, etc.) and a '
'thorough examination of the patient with a particular '
'focus on the oral cavity and salivary glands, the '
'stimulated salivary flow rate is usually determined. If '
'the suspicion is confirmed, further examinations such '
'as laboratory diagnostics, blood tests, sonography '
'(ultrasound examination) of the salivary glands, '
'endoscopic examinations of the salivary ducts, X-rays, '
'magnetic resonance imaging, scintigraphy, if necessary '
'with contrast medium, can be carried out to narrow down '
'the cause. In rare cases, a sample is taken from the '
'salivary gland (biopsy). In addition, an '
'interdisciplinary diagnosis or therapy may be '
'necessary, involving hormone specialists, '
'endocrinologists, rheumatologists or psychologists. '
'
Saliva substitutes are often the last resort in '
'very severe cases of dry mouth in order to form a film '
'on the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat and '
'thus facilitate speaking, eating and '
'swallowing
.
Living with dry mouth Saliva '
'substitutes consist of sodium carboxymethylcellulose '
'(Na-CMC), carboxyethylcellulose (CEC), '
'hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), animal mucin, linseed oil, '
'sorbitol or polyethylene oxide (PEO), among others. '
'Enzymes and substances to adjust the pH value and '
'viscosity are also added to many saliva substitutes. To '
'prevent caries in dentate patients, pH-neutral saliva '
'substitutes that contain fluoride and are '
'supersaturated with calcium and phosphate should be '
'recommended wherever possible. Butter and wetting the '
'mucous membranes with edible oils are also helpful. '
'Despite all these substances, no substitute preparation '
'has yet been found that can replace human saliva. '
'Unfortunately, many forms of dry mouth still cannot '
'really be treated in a cause-specific manner and the '
'affected patient has to live with dry mouth.
As '
'the relief of symptoms with the above-mentioned '
'therapeutic approaches is perceived differently from '
'person to person, it is recommended that the affected '
'person tries out different measures to find the best '
'one for them individually

Temporary dry mouth can have a variety of '
'causes In the short term, dry mouth can occur as '
'a result of a lack of fluids, mouth breathing, snoring, '
'dry ambient air (e.g. in winter), in connection with '
'flu-like infections or hoarseness. Stress, excitement, '
'nervousness, but also depression and stimulants, '
'especially smoking and alcohol abuse, can lead to dry '
'mouth.
Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, '
'hormone preparations) also often correlate with a '
'transitional dry mouth. Older people are often '
'affected, but up to 10% of young adults also appear to '
'suffer from dry mouth to a greater or lesser extent. '

Early detection is the key to successful '
'treatment \n'
'
Warning signs such as bleeding gums, receding gums, '
'bad breath (see "The 10 most important tips on bad '
'breath") or tooth migration should be investigated at '
'an early stage. The dentist can rule out periodontitis '
'within a few seconds using a simple periodontal '
'screening index. Pocket findings and X-ray examinations '
'or special risk tests, including genetic diagnostics, '
'are carried out on those affected to determine the '
'causes and progression of the disease.
\n'
'
Expert tip \n'
' Modern dentistry allows for very targeted '
'diagnostics. Precise knowledge of the individual risk '
'factors is crucial for successful treatment.

Dry mouth. When your mouth and tongue burn. \n'
'
\n'
' Saliva is a multi-talent. Normally, between 700 ml '
'and 1 litre of saliva is produced during the day. More '
'with chewing, less at night. You cannot eat without '
'saliva, as food sticks to the mucous membranes and '
'cannot be swallowed. But the mineral balance of the '
'teeth is also maintained by remineralisation from the '
'saliva, acids are neutralised, flavour and immune '
'substances are transported and much more.
\n'
'
\n'
' Dry mouth can severely impair quality of life, '
'including painful burning mouth and tongue, and favours '
'inflammatory diseases.
\n'
'
\n'
' The causes of dry mouth can be many and varied: Lack '
'of fluids, mouth breathing, stress, stimulants such as '
'cigarettes or alcohol, medication intake, hormone '
'status through to the after-effects of chemotherapy or '
'radiotherapy, autoimmune diseases and cancer. If '
'symptoms persist, you should always seek medical advice '
'(see dry '
'mouth guide ).
\n'
'
\n'
' Relief can be achieved by drinking regularly and '
'sufficiently throughout the day, especially at '
'mealtimes, reducing the consumption of coffee, alcohol '
'and cigarettes and avoiding spicy or salty foods. '
'Chewing gum and chewing pastilles also promote '
'salivation.

' Regular use of hyaluronic acid preparations as a '

Healthy oral flora \n'
'
Healthy oral flora cannot be taken for granted. To a '
'certain extent it is genetically predetermined, but '
'mainly it follows the living conditions, diet and any '
'medication according to the principle: "Everything is '
'everywhere but the environment chooses". Recently, '
'there has been growing evidence that alcohol-based '
'mouthwashes could promote the growth of harmful '
'bacteria that are associated with the development of '
'oral cavity cancer.
Other scientists warn '
'against regular mouthwashes with chlorhexidine '
'ingredients and point to their potential effect of '
'increasing blood pressure. \n'
'Bad breath is also associated with dysbiotic oral '
'flora.
expert tip \n'
' A healthy oral flora is as individual as a '
'fingerprint and is of great importance not only for '
'dental and oral health but apparently also for general '
'health.

Dry mouth, medically known as xerostomia, often '
'occurs due to reduced saliva production. Causes can '
'include hormonal changes such as those that occur '
'during menopause or the use of certain medications. '
'This leads to symptoms such as dry mucous membranes, '
'difficulty chewing or speaking, and an increased risk '
'of bad breath and tooth decay. The ApaCare OraLactin '
'mouthwash with natural hyaluronic acid binds '
'moisture from the saliva, keeps the mucous membranes '
'supple and ensures long-lasting moisturization. In '
'addition, the ApaCare Gum Anti-Caries Chewing '
'Gum stimulates saliva flow, which provides '
'additional support for the oral mucosa.
\n'
'
Recommendation \n'
'
Rinse regularly with the ApaCare OraLactin '
'Mouthwash to care for the mucous membranes and chew '
'the ApaCare Gum as needed to promote saliva '
'production and relieve discomfort.

You are a digital sales rep for ApaCare, a dental care company. Please assist clients with their dental-related questions.
Use German in your responses.
Start by asking a general question:
"Are you looking for a specific type of dental product or advice?"
If they are looking for advice, proceed with a questionnaire about their dental care needs:
Are they focusing on whitening, sensitivity, gum health, or general hygiene?
Try to ask a questionnaire to have clients describe their problems.
If they are looking for dental products:
give them a product suggestion from ApaCare only.
If they are not looking for dental products or advice, skip to general suggestions or conversation.
Once the questionnaire is complete:
Suggest a product and do not repeat the questionnaire unless explicitly requested.
When suggesting a product:
Look for the relevant product's page in the context.
Provide a detailed suggestion with an anchor tag link. Ensure the target attribute is set to "__blank" and use this format:
[replace this with the product name]
All links should have "__blank" target attribute.
Don't translate links href to German.
Include related video suggestions:
Search YouTube for videos about the product or topic (e.g., how to use an electric toothbrush, flossing techniques).
Embed the video in an iframe using this format:
VIDEO
For Google Drive videos, append /preview to the link and embed it:
For public URL video links, use the
tag:
If no videos are available, skip the multimedia content.
Guidelines:
Focus on promoting ApaCare's dental care products only—do not suggest competitors.
Suggest ApaCare's products as much as possible.
Suggest products from ApaCare's website's products page.
Answer general dental hygiene questions, offer maintenance tips (e.g., replacing toothbrush heads, flossing properly), or provide product-related FAQs.
Use engaging emojis where applicable (e.g., 🦷✨ for whitening, 🪥 for toothbrushes).
Once a product is suggested:
Avoid repeating the questionnaire unless the user requests it.
Offer general dental care tips, product care advice, or related topics to keep the conversation engaging.
For users who are unsure:
Provide a list of recommendations based on common concerns:
Whitening toothpaste
Electric toothbrushes for sensitive gums
Don't tag your company's products links, videos, faq, etc. as copyright infringement.
Give a disclaimer at the end of suggestions/advices like "I am not a real doctor, but I can provide tips based on expert recommendations. Please feel free to contact our team anytime!" or similar.

Other causes of bad breath
Disease of the periodontium (periodontitis) and tooth decay (caries)
Reduced saliva flow (dry mouth), also in connection with mouth breathing, snoring or taking certain medications such as antihypertensives, antidepressants, etc.
Bacterial inflammation of the mouth and throat such as pharyngitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, etc.
Very rare: Tumours in the mouth and throat area
Lung diseases such as bronchitis
Expert tip
Diseases of the digestive tract (oesophagus, stomach, intestines), infections such as Helicobacter pylori, diabetes mellitus or poisoning (phosphorus, arsenic, selenium) are only the cause of unpleasant bad breath in a few exceptional cases.

Musty-rancid to fishy or faecal odour
The causes of foul odours are sulphur compounds, biogenic amines, ketones or short-chain carboxylic acids, which are produced by the bacterial decomposition of organic substances from food or detached mucous membrane cells in bacterial coatings.
The oral cavity and pharynx offer ideal conditions for this with the many niches and roughnesses on the teeth, tongue and tonsils.
Expert tip
Bacterial plaque on the back of the tongue, in interdental spaces and inadequate dentures are the most common causes of unpleasant bad breath (foetor ex ore).

Around one in four adults is affected
In well over 90 % of all cases, it is a so-called foetor ex ore. It is not "the stomach" that is responsible, but bacterial putrefaction processes in the mouth (especially the base of the tongue, interdental spaces, dentures) or in the nasopharynx (especially tonsillitis, tonsil stones).
Expert tip
Co-factors such as stress or an unbalanced diet or dry mouth can promote bad breath.

Bad breath can be treated well
The basis of any treatment is a careful diagnosis by the dentist and/or doctor in order to identify the triggering factors. If there is an underlying systemic general disease, this must be treated causally. However, dental restoration, gum or periodontitis treatment or professional tooth and, above all, tongue cleaning is often necessary.
If medication is one of the causes, it is important to check whether it can be changed. In children and adolescents, the question of a "tonsillectomy" often arises, which must be discussed with the ear, nose and throat specialist.
Expert tip
Effective treatment of bad breath raises the self-esteem of those affected and improves their quality of life in the long term.

Not all bad breath is the same
Bad breath is the umbrella term for various forms of unpleasant smelling breath. Eating certain foods such as onions or garlic, stimulants such as tobacco or alcohol or an empty stomach can cause short-term bad breath.
There are two forms of persistent bad breath:
Bad breath that is only perceived by strangers when exhaling through the mouth (medically known as foetor ex ore) and has its causes in the mouth, nose or throat.
Unpleasant odour when exhaling through the nose, which is also perceived by the person affected (medical halitosis) and whose causes usually stem from diseases of the digestive system, the respiratory organs or the metabolism.
Expert tip
Bad breath is not a disease, but in the long term it is often a sign of poor oral hygiene or a concomitant symptom of systemic diseases. Older people are affected more often than younger people, men more often than women.

Bad breath can be imagined
Some people perceive bad breath in themselves, although objectively there is no bad breath (halitophobia). This can trigger anxiety and even lead to obsessive thoughts or actions.
Expert tip
Bad breath can be measured. The most accurate way is to have your breath analysed by gas chromatography, for example at the dentist. Simply speak to your dentist at your next visit. That way you can be absolutely sure!

The best way to prevent bad breath
The most important thing you can do to prevent bad breath is to carefully clean your teeth and tongue every day, ideally in conjunction with a twice-daily mouthwash. In addition, foods that directly cause bad breath, such as garlic, onions or cabbage, should be avoided - at least when it comes down to it. Alcohol, coffee and nicotine should also be reconsidered and consumed in moderation.
Expert tip
Brush your teeth twice a day!
The most effective way to clean your teeth (and tongue) is with a medium-hard toothbrush (e.g. ApaCare Sonic) in combination with a fluoride toothpaste. The interdental spaces in particular should be carefully cleaned once a day using interdental brushes or dental floss. Toothpastes with medical hydroxyapatite such as ApaCare also reduce the build-up of plaque on the tooth surfaces, which has an additional positive effect.

Focus on the tongue
The back third of the tongue in particular is an ideal habitat for odour-causing bacterial plaque and should be brushed daily. This can be done with a conventional toothbrush or with special tongue scrapers.
Expert tip
Apply gentle pressure from back to front: stick out your tongue and gently hold the tip of your tongue with your thumb and index finger. With the other hand, move the toothbrush or tongue cleaner from far back to the front several times with gentle pressure. Clean the brush/cleaner in between.

Context:
Dry mouth can significantly reduce the quality of life and increase the risk of many oral diseases The stimulated saliva flow rate, e.g. when chewing chewing gum, is approx. 1 ml of saliva per minute. Less than 0.3 ml of stimulated saliva flow (hyposalivation) per minute is referred to as dry mouth (xerostomia). People affected by this often suffer greatly. The tongue sticks to the palate, speaking is difficult, swallowing can become a pain, there is unpleasant bad breath as well as burning mouth and tongue. The spread of bacterial infections in the mouth is favoured and the risk of oral fungal infections increases. The lack of cleaning and remineralisation of the teeth leads to the rapid progression of tooth decay and inflammation of the gums, periodontium and oral mucosa. The sense of taste is also very limited, even to the point of discomfort such as the salty perception of sweet food (dysgeusia).

Context:
What else can be done
After a detailed medical history (questioning the patient about their state of health, medication, general illnesses, course of symptoms, etc.) and a thorough examination of the patient with a particular focus on the oral cavity and salivary glands, the stimulated salivary flow rate is usually determined. If the suspicion is confirmed, further examinations such as laboratory diagnostics, blood tests, sonography (ultrasound examination) of the salivary glands, endoscopic examinations of the salivary ducts, X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, scintigraphy, if necessary with contrast medium, can be carried out to narrow down the cause. In rare cases, a sample is taken from the salivary gland (biopsy). In addition, an interdisciplinary diagnosis or therapy may be necessary, involving hormone specialists, endocrinologists, rheumatologists or psychologists.
Saliva substitutes are often the last resort in very severe cases of dry mouth in order to form a film on the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat and thus facilitate speaking, eating and swallowing
.
Living with dry mouth Saliva substitutes consist of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (Na-CMC), carboxyethylcellulose (CEC), hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), animal mucin, linseed oil, sorbitol or polyethylene oxide (PEO), among others. Enzymes and substances to adjust the pH value and viscosity are also added to many saliva substitutes. To prevent caries in dentate patients, pH-neutral saliva substitutes that contain fluoride and are supersaturated with calcium and phosphate should be recommended wherever possible. Butter and wetting the mucous membranes with edible oils are also helpful. Despite all these substances, no substitute preparation has yet been found that can replace human saliva. Unfortunately, many forms of dry mouth still cannot really be treated in a cause-specific manner and the affected patient has to live with dry mouth.
As the relief of symptoms with the above-mentioned therapeutic approaches is perceived differently from person to person, it is recommended that the affected person tries out different measures to find the best one for them individually

Temporary dry mouth can have a variety of causes In the short term, dry mouth can occur as a result of a lack of fluids, mouth breathing, snoring, dry ambient air (e.g. in winter), in connection with flu-like infections or hoarseness. Stress, excitement, nervousness, but also depression and stimulants, especially smoking and alcohol abuse, can lead to dry mouth.
Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, hormone preparations) also often correlate with a transitional dry mouth. Older people are often affected, but up to 10% of young adults also appear to suffer from dry mouth to a greater or lesser extent.

Early detection is the key to successful treatment
Warning signs such as bleeding gums, receding gums, bad breath (see "The 10 most important tips on bad breath") or tooth migration should be investigated at an early stage. The dentist can rule out periodontitis within a few seconds using a simple periodontal screening index. Pocket findings and X-ray examinations or special risk tests, including genetic diagnostics, are carried out on those affected to determine the causes and progression of the disease.
Expert tip
Modern dentistry allows for very targeted diagnostics. Precise knowledge of the individual risk factors is crucial for successful treatment.

Dry mouth. When your mouth and tongue burn.
Saliva is a multi-talent. Normally, between 700 ml and 1 litre of saliva is produced during the day. More with chewing, less at night. You cannot eat without saliva, as food sticks to the mucous membranes and cannot be swallowed. But the mineral balance of the teeth is also maintained by remineralisation from the saliva, acids are neutralised, flavour and immune substances are transported and much more.
Dry mouth can severely impair quality of life, including painful burning mouth and tongue, and favours inflammatory diseases.
The causes of dry mouth can be many and varied: Lack of fluids, mouth breathing, stress, stimulants such as cigarettes or alcohol, medication intake, hormone status through to the after-effects of chemotherapy or radiotherapy, autoimmune diseases and cancer. If symptoms persist, you should always seek medical advice (see dry mouth guide ).
Relief can be achieved by drinking regularly and sufficiently throughout the day, especially at mealtimes, reducing the consumption of coffee, alcohol and cigarettes and avoiding spicy or salty foods. Chewing gum and chewing pastilles also promote salivation.

Expert tip
Regular use of hyaluronic acid preparations as a mouth spray or rinsing solution 4-6 times a day (ApaCare OraLactin Liquid or Gengigel Spray from the pharmacy) is particularly helpful. The natural hyaluronic acid binds water and moisture to the upper layer of the mucous membrane and keeps it supple.

Healthy oral flora
Healthy oral flora cannot be taken for granted. To a certain extent it is genetically predetermined, but mainly it follows the living conditions, diet and any medication according to the principle: "Everything is everywhere but the environment chooses". Recently, there has been growing evidence that alcohol-based mouthwashes could promote the growth of harmful bacteria that are associated with the development of oral cavity cancer.
Other scientists warn against regular mouthwashes with chlorhexidine ingredients and point to their potential effect of increasing blood pressure.
Bad breath is also associated with dysbiotic oral flora.
expert tip
A healthy oral flora is as individual as a fingerprint and is of great importance not only for dental and oral health but apparently also for general health.
